Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

338 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo did not receive a ewe cull payment for 2001. [6505/02]

According to information provided for my Department the person named by the Deputy has been in REPS since 1 August 1999 and is not therefore eligible for ongoing compensation under the scheme administered by my Department for income losses arising from the 30% destocking which took place in 1998. REPS participants farming eligible commonage land may avail of payment under measure A, at a higher rate than the basic REPS rate, for the area of the commonage. The higher rate of payment under measure A reflects the additional environmental requirements for target area land of which destocking is a major part.

Question:

340 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive partial payment under the ewe cull compensation scheme. [6506/02]

I am advised that farmers who joined REPS during 2001 may qualify for a reduced compensation payment from my Department, depending on actual losses incurred. Calculation of these payments is being done in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. Where compensation is due every effort will be made to ensure payment as soon as possible.
