Vol. 549 No. 3

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

456 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will increase the level of support available to a person (details supplied) in County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6819/02]

The pupil referred to by the Deputy is currently receiving three hours resource teacher support per week based on her professionally assessed needs. In June 1999, under the IT 2000 Initiative, my Department issued a computer grant of €1,905 to the management of the school attended by the pupil to facilitate the provision of suitable equipment to assist with her education. I understand the pupil has been supplied with a laptop computer. My Department's inspectorate has been requested to review the education needs of the pupil. When the inspectorate has reported, my officials will be in contact with the school authorities in this regard.
