Vol. 550 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bullying in the Workplace.

Jack Wall

Question:

125 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of cases of bullying that have been reported within a local authority (details supplied); the action taken in relation to the cases involved; if he has satisfied himself that mechanisms are in place to deal with such matters; the cases which have been referred to his Department in relation to the local authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7254/02]

The Local Government Management Services Board has issued policy guidelines on workplace bullying to the local authorities. That document gives an overview of workplace bullying, outlines the legal position and suggests a framework for an anti-bullying policy for the local authorities.

Local authorities are themselves responsible for observance of employment legislation within their organisations. Given this position, my Department does not deal with or monitor individual cases.
