Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Greyhound Industry.

Dan Neville

Question:

160 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will make a regulation that all testing of greyhounds for prohibited substances be completed independently of the Irish Greyhound Board. [7600/02]

Under the Greyhound Industry Act, 1958, the control of greyhound racing is a function delegated to Bord na gCon. It is a matter for the board of Bord na gCon to decide how this function is discharged. It is within the board's remit to decide to have the testing of greyhounds for prohibited substances carried out by Bord na gCon itself or by an independent agency. I do not propose to interfere in what is an issue for the board.
