Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

427 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is being denied unemployment benefit. [7850/02]

The person concerned applied for unemployment benefit on 12 February 2002. Her claim was disallowed by a deciding officer on the grounds that she was not available for full-time employment.

The person concerned was notified of this decision and of her right of appeal on 28 February 2002. It is open to the person concerned to appeal this decision and a form for this purpose was issued to her on 28 February 2002.

Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims and the insurability of employment must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
