Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Employment Support Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

428 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will review an application for the back to work allowance by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; and his views on whether this person should lose out of the scheme for the sake of about ten days. [7851/02]

The person concerned applied to his local partnership company for approval of his back to work enterprise self-employment project. The partnership company approved his project on 7 August 2001.

At that time the person concerned was no longer in receipt of a qualifying payment as his unemployment benefit ceased on 27 July 2001. He, therefore, did not qualify for an allowance. A letter to this effect was issued to him on 21 September 2001.
The case of the person concerned was recently referred for review. The officer who reviewed the case upheld the deciding officer's decision and a letter to this effect issued to the person concerned on 1 March 2002.
