Vol. 550 No. 2

Written Answers. - Compensation Payments.

Liam Aylward

Question:

446 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when compensation payments in respect of lands in County Wicklow will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [7657/02]

The lands in question are not part of the State owned Wicklow Mountains National Park but they are part of the Wicklow Mountains candidate special area of conservation (cSAC) No. 2122. It is not anticipated that designation as a cSAC will necessitate changes in farming practice on these lands. Where changes are necessary or restrictions are imposed on existing activities by Dúchas the heritage service of my Department, compensation will be paid for actual financial losses.

I am not aware of any such restrictions having been imposed on the person named and, therefore, the issue of compensation does not arise.
