Michael D. Higgins

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

482 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received an asylum application from a person (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7500/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 477 and 482 together.

The Deputy is referring to two applications for holiday visas, not applications for asylum. The two persons in question applied for holiday visas in May 2000 and again in June 2001. The applications were refused on both occasions because my Department was not satisfied, on the basis of the documentation supplied, that they would observe the conditions of a holiday visa.

According to my Department's records, one of the two applicants has since withdrawn his application. In so far as the other applicant is concerned, an appeal has been received and my Department has requested additional material from that person's solicitor. Upon receipt of this documentation further consideration will be given to the application.
