Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

209 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the position regarding an application for temporary milk quota from a person (details supplied); if his attention has been drawn to the restriction placed on this person's farm as a result of the tuberculosis eradication scheme and the hardship caused; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10186/02]

The allocation of milk quota from the national reserve is granted on the basis of recommendations from the milk quota appeals tribunal. The tribunal is a body established to consider and advise on applications for additional quota from individual producers who have suffered severe hardship in the context of the milk quota system. The tribunal also considers applications for temporary allocations to producers who encounter quota difficulties due to animal disease restrictions. The person in question submitted an application for additional quota on the grounds of animal disease. The tribunal examined this application in January and he was granted an allocation of 18,000 litres. He was notified of this decision at the time. The tribunal has now completed its work for the current milk quota year.
