Vol. 551 No. 4

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31. In regard to the first topic, I have received notice from Deputy Séamus Healy. I call on him to state the matter.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of urgent national importance, namely, the need for the Government to withdraw the Education for Persons with Disability Bill, 2002 and to embark immediately on a process of consultation with parents and the Irish Autism Alliance.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in accordance with Standing Order 31.

In regard to the second topic, I received notices from Deputies Fitzgerald, Gormley and Quinn. I propose to call the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. I call on Deputy Fitzgerald to state the matter.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the urgent need for insurance companies to fast-track and deal urgently and immediately with claims arising from the recent flooding in Ringsend and Irishtown so that the residents can get on with rebuilding their lives and their homes.

I now call on Deputy Gormley.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the failure of insurance companies to progress and settle claims with the flood victims of Ringsend and Sandymount and the need for the Minister of State with responsibility for consumer affairs to intervene in order to ensure that victims are treated fairly and without further delay.

I call on Deputy Quinn.

In accordance with the terms of Standing Order 31, I wish to give notice of my intention to seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention, namely, the serious dissatisfaction among families in the Ringsend-Irishtown areas, whose houses were damaged in recent flooding, with the treatment they have received from insurance companies licensed by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment in regard to insurance claims, and the need for the Department to encourage the companies to expedite the claims in a fair and prompt manner.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in accordance with Standing Order 31.
