Vol. 552 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

102 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a local authority is entitled to impose a length restriction on a bridge which is listed for special protection to prevent it being damaged by large trucks turning on to it; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12147/02]

The Road Traffic Acts provide a framework for the application of restrictions or prohibitions on the use of roads or bridges by traffic board on the weight of the vehicle, and such restrictions are commonly applied. Restrictions and prohibitions of this kind are not provided for in legislation on the basis of length of vehicles.
