Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Pat Carey

Question:

375 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction a learning support teacher at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 11 which is currently sharing this post with another Gaelscoil in the area. [13686/02]

I am aware that the school in question acts as the base school for the learning support service shared with another school in the area.

The needs of the school in question will be taken fully into account in the event of additional learning support teacher posts becoming available for distribution.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

376 Ms Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to an application for a resource teacher (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13687/02]

My Department allocates resource posts and additional teaching hours to vocational education committees to cater for special needs pupils. The relevant vocational educational committee makes applications for such support to my Department. Each case is considered on its merits and determined on the advice of the psychological service.

My Department has not as yet received an application from the vocational education committee for additional resource teaching hours for the pupil in question. If such an application is received, it will be referred to the psychological service for a report and, as soon as the report has been received and considered, my Department will notify the vocational education committee of the decision.
