Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Seán Ryan

Question:

418 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the pending loss of a teacher for St. Marnock's national school, Portmarnock, County Dublin, with a view to retaining this position in this developing school. [13911/02]

I wish to confirm that the staffing at St. Marnock's national school, Portmarnock, for the 2002-03 school year will remain unchanged from the 2001-02 school year. It will consist of a principal, 12 mainstream class teachers, learning support teacher, special class teacher and a resource teacher.

Question:

419 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the pending loss of a teacher for Holy Family national school, Swords, County Dublin, with a view to retaining this position in this developing school. [13912/02]

The staffing of a national school for a particular school year is determined by the enrolment in the school on 30 September of the previous year. This is in accordance with an agreement on staffing entered into between the Government and the education partners.

The enrolment of this school on 30 September 2001 was 527 pupils, which warrants a staffing of a principal and 18 mainstream class teachers for the 2002-03 school year. In addition, the school has the services of a resource teacher and two learning support teachers.

As the agreed retention figure for the 19th mainstream class teacher is 528 pupils, I regret that there is no basis on which I may sanction a continuation of this post at Holy Family national school for the 2002-03 school year.
