Question:

492 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if money will be allocated in 2002 for the refurbishment of the old convent property in Louisburgh, County Mayo; if so, the amount which will be allocated; and if the refurbishment will be done on a complete rather than phased basis. [13207/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 490 to 492, inclusive, together.

Responsibility for the provision of health services in the Louisburgh area is, in the first instance, a matter for the Western Health Board. The position is that the cost of capital projects in relation to services for older people must be met from the level of indicative national development plan funding notified to the Western Health Board for the period up to and including 2006. It is a matter for the board to decide on the order of priority of individual projects.

In a written communication to my Department earlier this month, the Western Health Board stated that it was its intention to submit a formal proposal to my Department to enable the full refurbishment of the building to take place, that such submission was currently being prepared and would be forwarded for consideration in the very near future. I will give full consideration to this proposal when it is received.
