Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Respite Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

556 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children when the new day care respite centre at Maynooth, County Kildare, will be completed and operational; the full extent of the proposed services to be provided thereat; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13777/02]

The provision of health services in County Kildare is a matter for the south western area health board operating under the aegis of the Eastern Regional Health Authority.

My Department has made inquiries to the authority, which advises that the new health centre at Maynooth, County Kildare, is a 50 bed unit, expected to be ready for opening by the beginning of August 2002. The area health board may admit patients for respite care before this date if the facilities are ready. The services to be provided at the centre are long stay care, respite care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing care.
