Vol. 553 No. 2

Written Answers. - Heavy Goods Vehicles.

Mary Upton

Question:

628 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda will fully enforce the three tonne limit on heavy goods vehicles circulating in Dublin city area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13874/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that under the Road Traffic Regulations, 1997, and Dublin City Council By Laws, 2001, there are various restrictions in place in relation to the movement and parking of heavy goods vehicles in excess of three tonnes within the Dublin city area. These regulations are and will continue to be fully enforced in the Dublin metropolitan region by the Garda regional traffic division and divisional traffic units. I am informed by the Garda authorities that 89 offences have been detected this year to date for breaches of the aforementioned bye laws.
