Vol. 553 No. 4

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Wall – to ask the Minister for Education and Science what plans he has put in pace to rectify the major problems facing staff and students at Brannockstown national school, Brannockstown, Kilcullen, County Kildare, given that the present situation is untenable according to his Department's regulations; (2) Deputy Rabbitte – the administration of family law as it impacts on the rights of estranged fathers; (3) Deputy Healy – the decision of Allied Irish Banks to close its Killenaule, County Tipperary, branch on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with effect from 18 June 2002; (4) Deputy Shortall – the implications for the taxpayer of the deed of indemnity agreed on 5 June 2002 between the Ministers for Education and Science and Finance and certain religious congregations; (5) Deputy Morgan – the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to implement the regulation in the Planning and Development Act, 2001, which empowers the Minister to transfer the function of imposing planning levies from county and city managers, as is currently the case, to elected members; (6) Deputy Crowe – the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to address the renewed and growing crisis in communities, especially in Dublin, with the increased supply of heroin on the streets and the devastating social consequences; (7) Deputy Pat Breen – the need for the Minister for Transport to clarify the position regarding the downgrading of Shannon Airport by the proposed transfer of transatlantic cabin crews to Dublin; and (8) Deputy Durkan – the matter of a series of what appears to be criminally organised bank robberies in north Kildare and the Dublin area, if the total takings have been identified and if he proposes particular action in response.

The matters raised by Deputies Rabbitte, Shortall, Pat Breen and Durkan have been selected for discussion.
