Vol. 553 No. 5

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business, I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 31 dealing with three different topics. I propose to deal with these topics separately and I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to address the subject matter of the proposed severe cutback of Government funding to the National Roads Authority which will have a devastating effect on the national roads programme as contained in the National Development Plan, 2000 to 2006. It is now apparent that many such road projects will be discontinued, redesigned or greatly delayed which, in turn, will be detrimental to the development of a balanced regional development programme.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following matter of urgent public importance: the welcome decision of the High Court to publish the inspector's report on the Ansbacher accounts and the need to make arrangements that Dáil Éireann does not go into recess this week but to arrange meetings of Dáil Éireann for next week to discuss the Ansbacher report and the legislative and political implications that will arise.

In accordance with the terms of Standing Order 31, I seek the adjournment of the Dáil to discuss the following specific and important matter of public interest: the decision of the Government to seek to defer publication of the report of the High Court inspector into the Ansbacher accounts until next week when the Dáil will be in recess and the urgent need for the Government to return to the High Court to seek publication this week and thus allow a full debate in the House before the summer recess.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be in order in accordance with Standing Order 31. Deputy Liz McManus is not in the House.
