Vol. 553 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

395 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs if people living here who are only getting a UK pension are entitled to the living alone allowance. [14610/02]

The living alone allowance is an additional payment of €7.70 per week, to people aged 66 years or over who are in receipt of certain social welfare type payments and who reside alone. The allowance is an integral part of the Irish pension system and is paid as an additional allowance. As such, it has no applicability vis-à-vis pension payments made under the social security regimes of other EU member states or countries with which Ireland has bilateral agreements.
