Written Answers. - Public Spending Programmes.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

95 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Finance the evaluations of public spending programmes which his Department has undertaken during the past 12 months. [14425/02]

No formal evaluations of public spending programmes have been carried out in the last 12 months relating to programmes funded from my Department's Vote. Spending on programmes is, of course, monitored on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

In the context of the 2002-04 period, my Department, as part of the expenditure review initiative, will conduct a series of reviews of expenditure. Reviews of four separate programmes funded by my Department are due to commence in 2002. These programmes are: Subhead D – Institute of Public Administration; subhead L – payments to promoters of certain charitable lotteries; subhead N – change management fund; subhead O1 – peace programme.
My Department has also been involved in a number of reviews of public spending programmes by other Departments, including, for example, investment in road network. This evaluation commenced in January 2002 and is expected to conclude in September-October 2002. It is an evaluation of the roads measures in the NDP; Public Transport. Commenced in December 2001 and expected to conclude in September-October 2002. This is an evaluation of the public transport measures in the NDP; and Level of provision and targeting of measures in employment and human resource measures in the NDP. Commenced in November 2001 and expected to conclude in September-October 2002. This is an evaluation of the training, education and active labour market measures in the NDP.
