Vol. 553 No. 5

Written Answers. - Capital Spending Programme.

John Bruton

Question:

133 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the 2002 Estimates for public capital spending by his Department; if the net expenditure under headings is likely on present trends to be exceeded; and if so, the amount by which in each case. [14378/02]

The 2002 Estimate for public capital spending by my Department is €22,791,000. On current trends it is not envisaged that the overall estimate will be exceeded.

However, the net expenditure under subhead B, consultancy services, is expected to exceed the capital estimate for that subhead. The figure for capital expenditure in the 2002 Revised Estimates Volume was €250,000. It is now expected that the actual capital expenditure under this subhead will be €480,649. This is an excess of €230,649 over the original estimate.

The provision under this subhead relates to the sale of State banks. Legal issues relating to the sale of ACC Bank have proved more complex than expected. In addition to this, extra costs have arisen in regard to the completion accounts of ACC Bank. These two issues have resulted in the expected overspend under this subhead. Nevertheless I do not expect my Department's overall capital expenditure to exceed the 2002 estimate.

Question No. 134 answered with Question No. 76.
