Vol. 553 No. 6

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Seán Haughey

Question:

251 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will sign the order on criminalising of travellers trespassing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14871/02]

The Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2002 contains a number of provisions which have not yet been brought into force, including section 24 which provides for the amendment of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994 to create a new offence of criminal trespass. I propose to make a general commencement order shortly bringing virtually all of the provisions of the Act into force, including section 24.
