Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

1486 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when phase II of the Tuam regional water scheme will commence; if funding is available to fund this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15977/02]

Phase 2 of the Tuam regional water supply scheme, which will service a wide area of County Galway, is included in my Department's water services investment programme 2002-2004 to start construction next year. The submission of contract documents for the first stage of the scheme, an extension to the Headford area, is awaited by my Department from Galway County Council. Planning of the other elements of the scheme is proceeding.

Question:

1487 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 186 of 20 February 2002, when approval will be given to the council to appoint contractors to construct this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16017/02]

I have approved the contract documents submitted by Roscommon County Council for this scheme and it is now a matter for the council to invite tenders for the works.

Question:

1488 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will approve funding for the Creggs sewerage scheme, County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16018/02]

A preliminary report for Creggs sewerage scheme was submitted to my Department by Galway County Council in 1999 but has not been approved. The scheme was 17th in the list of sewerage schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2002-2004, published in April 2002. Because of the level of competing demand and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis it has not been possible to include the scheme in the programme.
