Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Legislative Programme.

Enda Kenny

Question:

1728 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs her Department's legislative programme for the remainder of this year; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14398/02]

The Government's legislative programme outlines a number of initiatives which I will bring forward in due course. My priorities for the remainder of this year include the publication of the Civil Registration Service Bill and the enactment of the Social Welfare (No. 2) Bill, 2002.

The Civil Registration Service Bill will provide for reform of the existing births, marriages and deaths registration legislation. It will also underpin the modernisation of the Civil Registration Service. The Bill is currently being drafted by the Parliamentary Counsel's office and it is my intention to have it published as soon as possible. I want to introduce it to the Oireachtas before the end of this year.

The Social Welfare (No. 2) Bill, 2002, will provide for the implementation of budget 2003 increases in social welfare payments and PRSI changes, if any, which would be scheduled to take effect from January next.
