Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Commonage Framework Plans.

Michael Ring

Question:

347 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if the destocking requirement for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo could be altered in view of the effect the commonage framework plan will have on their livelihood. [16807/02]

The destocking percentage for all grazing stock on the commonage in question is 77%. The maximum destocking that will be applied for 2003 is 50%, subject to the polluter pays principle.

I will shortly be announcing details of an appeals mechanism in relation to commonage framework plans. Shareholders may appeal the destocking percentage specified for their commonage. If it is decided that a change is warranted this will be on the basis of an environmental assessment of the condition of the land. If an adjustment is made to the destocking percentage for a commonage this will apply to all shareholders. It is not possible to alter the destocking requirement for individual shareholders.
