Question:

1132 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children when the consultants appointed to evaluate the helicopter emergency medical service will report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16618/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 897 and 1132 together.

My Department and the Northern Ireland Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety have commissioned a feasibility study and report to be undertaken on the costs and benefits associated with the introduction of a dedicated helicopter emergency medical services or HEMS for the island of Ireland. The consultants undertaking the study anticipate that it will be completed towards year end.
