Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Jack Wall

Question:

912 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that families who are medical card holders cannot get a general practitioner to include them on their lists; the action he intends to take to rectify this serious matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15428/02]

The GMS contract, which is signed by all participating general practitioners, allows the relevant health board to assign an eligible person to be included on the list of a participating medical practitioner in any case where the patient has been unable to secure such services themselves.

If the Deputy forwards me details of any specific cases of which he is aware where families are experiencing difficulties in being accepted onto a participating doctor's list, I will arrange to have the matter investigated without delay.

John McGuinness

Question:

913 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if an application by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny can be expedited. [15429/02]

Responsibility for the provision of a medical card in this case rests with the South-Eastern Health Board. My Department has therefore asked the chief executive officer to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him.

Question No. 914 answered with Question No. 906.

Paul Kehoe

Question:

915 Mr. Kehoe asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will review the decision taken by the South-Eastern Health Board not to renew the medical card of a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15431/02]
