Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Home Help Service.

Michael Ring

Question:

1081 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if there is a waiting list for people seeking home help in the Western Health Board area; his views on whether this is reasonable in view of the age of almost all of those home help recipients; and when the waiting list was initiated. [16280/02]

My Department has made inquiries of the Western Health Board on the matters raised by the Deputy and has been informed that a waiting list does exist in respect of people wishing to avail themselves of home help services and has existed for many years. At present, the board is experi encing unprecedented demand for home help services, particularly in County Mayo. However, despite this increased demand, the level of service being provided in County Mayo in 2002 is significantly greater than in previous years, in response to assessed need.

Question No. 1082 answered with Question No. 936.
