Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Denis Naughten

Question:

1271 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Transport if work on the upgrading of the railway line from Waterford to Dublin is on schedule; when works are expected to be completed; his views on the safety level of the line; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16688/02]

Iarnród Éireann informs me that under the rail safety programme work on the upgrading of the Dublin-Waterford line is on schedule and the final nine miles of track is programmed for completion in the current year. At that stage, the whole line will have been renewed with EU and Exchequer grant assistance. Iarnród Éireann also states that it considers the safety level of the track and infrastructure on the line to be good.
