Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

346 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the extent to which patients have gone outside the jurisdiction to obtain various health or surgical services with particular reference to those on waiting lists here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18403/02]

Under the national treatment purchase fund – NTPF – initiative, 38 patients have been treated outside the jurisdiction to date. Capacity to treat 400 patients per month is now in place, i.e. 300 in Ireland and 100 in the United Kingdom. This capacity will rise to 600 patients per month from January 2003, i.e. 400 in Ireland and 200 in the UK.
