Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Hospital Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

345 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the degree to which the Maynooth Respite Hospital is fully operational; the number of beds currently occupied and anticipated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18402/02]

The provision of health services in County Kildare is a matter for the South-Western Area Health Board operating under the aegis of the Eastern Regional Health Authority.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the community nursing unit at Maynooth. I am informed by the authority that Maynooth community nursing unit is a 50 bed unit. The services to be provided at the hospital are long stay care, respite care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing care. There are currently 12 long stay beds and four respite beds in operation.
