Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Construction Tenders.

John McGuinness

Question:

395 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will provide the name and address of the contractor who did the work on a place (details supplied) mentioned in the annex to a letter sent to Deputy McGuinness on 4 July 2002 and supply the Deputy with details of the winning tender and the names, addresses and quotations of the under-bidders in the tendering process; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18141/02]

The works originally entailed the removal of pigeon droppings, which were more than four metres deep, and the erection of internal scaffolding to a height of 100 ft to assess the state of repair of the tower. In view of the nature of the work and the limited scale of the job, only one tender was sought and the contract was awarded to Mr. P. J. Ryan, contractor, Drish, Thurles, County Tipperary. It was also considered more cost-effective to require the contractor to remove vegetation, do some minor repointing and fit wire to prevent further entry by pigeons while his scaffolding was in place. The total cost of the work was €6,785.17.
