Vol. 555 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

146 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason for the proposed reduction in Garda numbers at a station (details supplied) in County Cork; and if this station will maintain its existing numbers in view of the rapid expansion of the population of the area due to its close proximity to the city. [18670/02]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the current personnel strength of the Garda station referred to in the question is one garda. I am further informed that local Garda management is satisfied that the current policing arrangements are adequate to meet the present policing needs of that area and that resources are augmented from within the district as required.

However, I am advised that the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available the needs of area referred to in the question will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda stations throughout the country.
