Vol. 557 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

212 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he proposes to make available the necessary funding to build a water pipe from Portumna, County Galway, to Gort An Iomaire, together with a water tower which in turn will be used as a distributor of water by local group water schemes in the surrounding areas through a capital grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22847/02]

The scheme was not included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2002-2004, announced in April 2002. Given the absence of a prioritised proposal for this scheme, it has not been included in the programme.
