Vol. 557 No. 6

Written Answers. - Nurses Dispute.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

29 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he intends to take to avert the threatened strike by nurses working in the mental health care sector. [22901/02]

I am aware that the INO has voted to take industrial action following on from the report and recommendations of the joint working group on social care professionals. The report of the joint working group made recommendations in relation to the professionalisation of house-parents and assistant house-parents in the intellectual disability sector. Two meetings have recently been held between management and unions at which issues in relation to the report were raised. Management has offered the INO a process to deal with the issues. The INO has not taken up this offer nor has it given formal notice of any industrial action. I call on the INO to engage with this process.
