Vol. 558 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

238 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the savings in 2002 identified to date under each sub-head in his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23984/02]

The new Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs was established in June and entailed the transfer of various functions into and out of it. Consequently, a number of issues need to be reconciled in the next few weeks before we can forecast year end outturns with a reasonable degree of confidence.

We anticipate that expenditure across Vote 42 at the end of 2002 will broadly reflect amended Estimates. It is envisaged that most of the savings that are likely to arise on individual sub-heads will be offset by an expected shortfall in appropriations-in-aid and by reallocations to other programmes of my Department where extra resources are needed.
