Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he intends to honour his commitments for major primary school capital works approved; when he expects the development to commence for the school building project in Naomh Pádraig, O'Callaghan's Mills, County Clare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Architectural planning has commenced for refurbishment works at the school referred to by the Deputy. I will publish my expenditure proposals in January. In the meantime, it is not possible to indicate as to the timetable for the commencement of construction of individual projects.

My Department recently authorised improvement works to be carried out at the schools referred to by the Deputy.

Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he intends to honour his commitments for major primary school capital works approved; when he expects the development to commence for the school building project in Ennis boys' national school, County Clare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department recently authorised improvement works at the school referred to by the Deputy. The school authorities have an application with my Department for a new 24 classroom school. This application is being considered as a possible public private partnership project and my Department will be in contact with the school authorities when a decision has been made in this regard.

Breen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he intends to honour his commitments for major post-primary schools building projects progressing through architectural planning to invitation of tenders and award of contract; and when he expects the development to commence for the school building project in Kilrush community school, County Clare. My Department has an extensive post-primary schools building programme under way with a substantial financial commitment being carried forward into 2003. The matter of allowing additional projects into architectural planning will be decided when all budgetary issues for 2003 have been finalised and the precise allocations for 2003 are fully determined.

In regard to Kilrush community school, County Clare, an extension project has been completed at this school.

In regard to schools in Ennistymon, the building unit of my Department has determined that a new school to cater for 650 pupils is required as a result of the proposed amalgamation of Scoil Mhuire, Meán Scoil na mBráithre and Ennistymon vocational educational college.

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. N. Dempsey): The stage two submission, outline sketch scheme, has been received in my Department and is being examined by officials in the building unit. When this examination is completed and if it is considered to be in order, the question of allowing the project proceed to the next stage will be considered, as in previous years, when all budgetary issues for 2003 have been finalised and the precise allocations for 2003 have been fully determined.
