Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - State Claims Agency.

John Dennehy

Question:

191 Mr. Dennehy asked the Minister for Finance the number of cases handled by the State Claims Agency in 2002; the approximate amount of money involved; and if he will make a statement on the operation of the agency. [24807/02]

The State Claims Agency began operations on 3 December 2001 when 700 existing claims were transferred to it by State authorities. Since that date the State Claims Agency has received 907 new claims.

The total amount spent to date on settled claims in compensation and associated legal and other costs is just under €1.2 million. As a large majority of the claims are at an early stage in terms of management, expenditure to date has been relatively low.
