Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - Inservice Training.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

253 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if he intends to provide in-service training for primary school teachers to deal with developmental co-ordination disorder; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24496/02]

Teaching duties and responsibilities do not include the therapies usually applied in the treatment of developmental co-ordination disorder. Such treatments, where assessed as being required, normally fall within the scope of the occupational therapy services which are the responsibility of the health boards. Therefore, my Department does not propose to provide in-service training for primary teachers in this area.
