Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - State Examinations.

Olwyn Enright

Question:

254 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science if he intends to review the timetable for the junior and leaving certificate examinations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24497/02]

The timetable for the State examinations each year is finalised by my Department following consultation with the education partners, including representatives from the teacher groups, school management bodies and parents' council. It reflects a number of considerations including impact on students, the integrity of the school year and the issue date for results.

The timetable will continue to be reviewed on an ongoing basis with the education partners. My Department's approach is to build consensus regarding suggested improvements.
