European Union Conventions: Referral to Select Committee.

I move:

That the proposal that Dáil Éireann approve the terms of the following Conventions:

(i) Convention drawn up on the basis of Article K (3)(2)(c) of the Treaty on European Union on the fight against corruption involving officials of the European Communities or Officials of Member States of the European Union, done at Brussels on 26th May, 1997,

(ii) Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions drawn up under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development, adopted at Paris on 21st November, 1997, and

(iii) Criminal Law Convention on Corruption drawn up under the auspices of the Council of Europe, done at Strasbourg on 27th January, 1999,

which were given effect to by the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2001 (No. 27 of 2001) and a copy of each of which was laid before Dáil Éireann on 18th May, 1999, be referred to the Select Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights in accordance with paragraph (1)(a)(iii) of the Orders of Reference of that Committee, which, not later than 17th December, 2002, shall send a message to the Dáil in the manner prescribed in Standing Order 85, and Standing Order 84(2) shall accordingly apply.
