Vol. 559 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Joe Costello

Question:

182 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if it is intended to close Fitzgibbon Street Garda station temporarily or permanently; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25989/02]

The Office of Public Works has identified health and safety issues relating to Fitzgibbon Street Garda station which require it to be vacated as soon as possible. Arrangements are being made by the Office of Public Works to provide alternative accommodation, at an early date, in the district for those attached to Fitzgibbon Street Garda station.

The Deputy will appreciate that in all such matters I accept the professional advice of that office which has identified a suitable location for the required move close to the present station. Negotiations for the acquisition of the property involved are well advanced.

Once the priority of the move has been achieved consideration will be given to all relevant issues concerning the requirements of the Garda Síochána in the district going forward.
