Vol. 559 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Seán Crowe

Question:

127 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received correspondence from Deputy Crowe regarding meeting parents and staff of St. Killian's junior and senior schools; and if he will meet the parents and staff to discuss the crisis situation in which the students in these schools are being educated. [26923/02]

It is not my intention to have meetings with school groups about building projects because this may convey the impression that decisions on school projects are based on political considerations rather than on objective criteria based on need. The position is that architectural planning for a building project and refurbishment works at St. Killian's national schools is at an advanced stage.

I will announce my Department's expenditure proposals in relation to school buildings in the new year. In the meantime, it is not possible to say when individual projects will proceed to tender and construction.
