Vol. 559 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Gerard Murphy

Question:

178 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason behind the decision not to give national lottery funding to an association (details supplied) in County Cork. [26963/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services in County Cork rests with the Southern Health Board. I am informed by the board that the Millstreet and District Housing Association Ltd. applied for a grant from the national lottery discretionary funds towards the provision of hairdressing facilities at the day centre. The application was recommended by the board.

However, applications for national lottery grants far exceed funding available to my Department from the national lottery discretionary funds. As the funds available for 2002 have been disbursed it is not possible, unfortunately, to assist in this case. Millstreet and District Housing Association may wish to re-apply for a grant from the 2003 national lottery allocation.
