Vol. 559 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

44 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education and Science when he expects to announce his funding proposals for primary school development; the criteria which will be used in determining which schools will get funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26689/02]

In January, I will be announcing how my Department will be spending the allocation made in the Estimates for primary school buildings. My Department will be framing the 2003 expenditure proposals, within the constraints of the allocation of €147.7 million for primary buildings. This will have regard to anticipated funding required in 2003 for areas such as contractual commitments on existing projects, asbestos and radon remediation programmes and emergency health and safety works. It will also take into account the cost of the annual devolved grant, the provision of prefabricated accommodation, grants for the replacement of boilers, replacement of mechanical and electrical installations and all other direct payments to schools for works above the value of the devolved grant.
