Vol. 559 No. 6

Written Answers. - Youth Services.

David Stanton

Question:

89 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the assistance given by his Department to the No Name Club organisation; his views on same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23812/02]

The No Name Club receives funding from my Department under the youth service grants scheme, which is administered by the youth affairs section. Funding is made available on an annual basis through this scheme to national and major regional voluntary youth organisations to support the costs associated with their programmes and services.

In 2002, the No Name Club has been allocated €106,658 under this scheme towards the costs associated with its on-going programmes and services. This figure represents a 5.5.% increase over 2001 funding.

This organisation has received a 65% increase in funding over the last four years, which is an indication of the importance which I and my Department place on the work of the organisation. Local no name clubs may also avail of the annual local youth club grant scheme, which provides money for the growth and development of local youth clubs.

An application for financial assistance for 2003 will be considered in the light of available financial resources and existing commitments.
