Vol. 559 No. 6

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

101 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will consider allocating an additional milk quota to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [26895/02]

The allocation of milk quota from the national reserve is granted on the basis of recommendations from the Milk Quota Appeals Tribunal. The tribunal is a body established to consider applications for additional quota from individual producers who have suffered severe hardship in the context of the milk quota system.

My Department has not received an application to the tribunal from the person named in the current quota year. The closing date for receipt of applications was 30 November 2002. The person in question may apply again to the tribunal in the 2003-04 milk quota year.

Question:

102 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if an additional milk quota will be granted for a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this person lost more than 10% of his herd some years ago but cannot provide the necessary evidence for same. [26896/02]

The allocation of the balance of the Agenda 2000 milk quota to certain categories of small and medium scale milk producers has now been completed and applicants have been notified of the outcome in their own cases. It appears that the wife of the person named submitted an application in relation to this quota but unfortunately, as the conditions of the scheme were not satisfied an allocation was not made. Notification to that effect has been sent to her and this has indicated the basis on which the conditions of the scheme were not met. Any applicant who is not satisfied with the outcome in his or her case may submit an appeal, by 10 January 2003, on Form MQA32, which is available from the co-op or dairy or from my Department's milk policy division.
