Seán Haughey

Question:

546 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if the environmental impact statement which accompanied the application of 7 March 2002 by the Dublin Port Company under section 10 of the Foreshore Act 1993 meets the statutory requirements and provides sufficient information to allow a decision to be made; when the public consultation process in this regard will be initiated; the person who initiates this process; if the port company has contacted his Department in response to the view that planning permission is required for this proposed reclamation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1226/03]

The environmental impact statement submitted by Dublin Port Company with its application for approval for reclamation of foreshore in Dublin Bay has been examined to determine whether it meets statutory requirements and provides sufficient information to allow a decision to be made on the application. My Department will discuss the matter with the port company in the near future and a decision on the further action to be taken in respect of the application will be made in the light of those discussions. The port company has informed my Department that it accepts that planning permission is required for the proposed reclamation.
