681 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 300 and 301 of 17 December 2002, and Parliamentary Question No. 1127 of 9 October 2002, if he will provide the information requested; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1503/03]

The Deputy will now be in possession of the information in relation to (a) the administration of OPV after the expiry date and (b) the follow-up procedures in relation to the withdrawal of two batches of BCG vaccine which I forwarded to him last week in two separate letters, both dated 22 January 2003.

Question:

682 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children the action he intends to take to address the concerns and proposals made, further to his meeting with the vaccine injury campaign on 16 April 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1504/03]

As detailed to the Deputy in response to his Parliamentary Questions Nos. 215 of 14 November 2002 and 302 of 17 December 2002, I met two representatives of the Irish vaccine injury cam paign on 16 April 2002 and the matters raised by them are under consideration by my Department at present. My officials are examining details of vaccine injury compensation schemes in place in other countries. On completion of this examination, further investigation will take place into the clinical and administrative aspects of the most relevant models examined and a report on the issue will be prepared. At that stage I will consider the introduction of legislation for such a scheme.
