Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

937 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 1437 of 9 October 2002, he can confirm that it was previously intended to review the operation of facilities at Maynooth Castle following the installation of the exhibition, to see if additional works were required to ensure the successful operation of the Castle facilities; his views on whether such a review is required to enable the processing of the phase 2 restoration works which are required to complete the restoration works programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1768/03]

The current phase of works at Maynooth Castle, which was designed to be a stand alone project, will be complete in the coming weeks with the installation of the exhibition. My Department will continue to assess the needs of the site to ensure the facilities required for its successful operation are provided. The priority for this year will be the provision of on-site facilities for the guides. No further major works are envisaged at the castle for the medium term.
